PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana – Scheme for Free Electricity

The Government of India (Bharat Sarkar) approved PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana on 29 February 2024 to increase the share of solar rooftop capacity and empower residential households to generate their Own electricity in their homes. The scheme will be implemented by a National Programme Implementation Agency (NPIA) at the National level and by the State Implementation Agencies (SIAs) at the state level. The Distribution Utility (DISCOMs or Power/Energy Departments, as the case may be) shall be the State Implementation Agencies (SIA) at the State/UT level. c) Under the scheme.

In the 2024-25 budget, Finance Minister Smt.Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the Rooftop Solar Scheme. This initiative offers subsidies for the Installation of rooftop solar panels in residential properties, promoting the utilization of solar energy for electricity generation. To reduce electricity bills and promote the solar energy scheme in India.

Solar Rooftop Scheme work (or)PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana ?

The scheme provides for a subsidy of 60% of the solar unit cost for systems up to 2kW capacity and 40 per cent of additional system cost for systems between 2 to 3kW capacity. The subsidy has been capped at 3kW capacity.

Subsidy for residential households

  • Rs. 30,000/- per kW up to 2 kW
  • Rs. 18,000/- per kW for additional capacity up to 3 kW
  • Total Subsidy for systems larger than 3 kW capped at Rs 78,000

Who can apply for this scheme?

  • Applicant must be an Indian citizen.
  • He must own a house with a roof that is suitable for installing solar panels.
  • The Household must have a valid electricity connection.
  • Applicant households must not have utilized any other subsidy for solar panels.
